A huge congratulations to three of Woodbury's own for qualifying for the Nordic Skiing State Meet. Paul Henning, Kathleen Danielson, and Grant Davis will be competing tomorrow at Giant's Ridge. Stay tuned for the meet's results and make sure to congratulate the entire Nordic team on a great season!
If you haven't heard, the Woodbury High School Girls Basketball team is ranked 12th in the state (as of last week). This past Friday, the girls defeated Cretin in a close win of 42-39. Their next home game is this Friday, Jan. 16th at 7:15, against White Bear Lake. Be sure to cheer them on!
Here's a preview of photos from the Cretin game - keep an eye out for more soon! (One more thing. We are a little behind on our weekly posts, so no worries - you have tackled more than 16 weeks of school! We are always looking for more pride to share, so feel free to drop an email at [email protected]!) #WHSPride Looking for an easy way to give back? Boy, do we have a solution for you. Located in the Cafeteria Overflow is our very own Ronald McDonald House pop tab collection site. The task couldn't be simpler: just drop tabs from soda or soup cans (in a Ziploc bag) into the house. You can't miss the blue roof.
Ronald McDonald House Charities is a phenomenal nonprofit organization dedicated to serving families with children receiving treatment at the nearby hospital. Since 1987, the recycling of aluminum has raised nearly one million dollars for RMHC. Such a small gesture can go an incredibly long way. Learn more about the organization and other ways to help at: http://rmhtwincities.org. #WHSPride We originally intended to submit this post last week, but decided to hold off. But don't worry, our reasoning is sound.
The past few years, Woodbury High School has collected donations for students and families, throughout the school community, who are struggling to afford food and living. Particularly, we focused on the holiday season. What better time to give? This year, Student Council wanted to try something new. Rather than simply pass around bags for donations, we sent out a 5ft. tall cardboard cut out lion, adorned in Royal beads, to classrooms around the school. Though it sounds harmless, the lion was accompanied with a soundbox that emitted a roar (literally) every 10 seconds. It was undeniablly annoying. But that was the point. The objective was to have both students and teachers pay to have the arguably maddening lion removed from the classroom. Collections of specific values resulted in various outcomes: $10 -- The lion was removed from the room. $20 -- The current classroom was allowed to decide upon the lion's next victim (the teacher to host it next). $30-- The current classroom was able to choose the next location as well as recieve "Lion Insurance" (a guarantee that the lion would not return). The fundraiser began Friday, December 5th and was origally planned to carry on until Wednesday, December 10th. Unfortunately, the final sound box roared its last roar at 2:52 pm on Monday afternoon. Not to worry though, as of Thursday we learned that over $800 was collected in just two days. All donations will go to giving some of Woodbury's own a better holiday season. Congratulations Woodbury High School! #WHSPRIDE Congratulations to the cast and crew of the fall musical, Curtains! Your hard work has truly paid off in your amazing production. The murder mystery comedy follows the story of the star of Robbin' Hood of the Old West, who dies during her opening night curtain call. Don't miss the last production tonight, November 22, at 7:00 in the WHS Auditorium!
Read more about the musical at: http://whs.sowashco.k12.mn.us/activities/fall-musical Thanks to Wildenauer Photography for the photos! http://www.wildenauerphotography.com/ #WHSPride A massive congratulations go out to Grace Cherrey and Ana Sortland for signing to their respective colleges! On November 12th, Grace signed to the University of Georgia, where she will continue as a talented gymnast. Ana, an All American Swimmer, chose Michigan State.
Speaking of these amazing athletes, another shout out to Ana, who finished third in the 100m breaststroke at the State Finals! Congratulations and good luck to you both! Woodbury is so lucky to have such dedicated and hardworking student athletes. #WHSPride |
